Landlords can prevent waste, improve tenant relationships, and lesson their work all at the same time.

Allowing tenants to leave behind items can improve your property. Useful items that all tenants will use can be a nice bonus upon move-in and help create a better relationship. Hangers, swiffers, and cleaning supplies are examples of items most tenants would throw in the garbage unnecessarily. Encourage tenants to leave behind these items rather than throwing them away.
Tenants purchase items that fit into the space they are living. Sometimes perfectly. And moving large items can cause property damage and incur fines if not properly disposed of. Lesson the stress by connecting your current tenants to the next set of tenants and see if anything can just stay in the property. This can create a better looking property and reduces the amount of waste in general because the new tenants don’t have to purchase as many new items.
When tenants have to get rid of items help them do it in ways that create a better local community. Give them resources of which local charities could benefit from what. Reduce the barriers and give them phone numbers and websites! You know your community best so share that knowledge with them and hopefully the items they are disposing of can be used by individuals who want them.
